Capital of Romania

Not only is Bucharest the capital city of Romania, it is also the country’s largest city. Situated southeast of the country, Bucharest is not known as one of the more prosperous European cities. However, in the last few years, Bucharest has been experiencing a boom both culturally and economically. Bucharest is estimated to have a population of approximately 1.9 million people. In terms of population, Bucharest ranks as the 6th largest city in the European Union. There is no shortage of recreational areas, educational facilities, and shopping districts in Bucharest.

Top Sites

Some top sites not to miss in Bucharest include House of the Free Press, The Arch of Triumph, Calea Victorei, Cantacuzino Palace, Revolution Square, The Royal Palace, The Romanian Athenaeum, Athenee Palace Hotel, Kretzulescu Church, Royal Palace Great Concert Hall, The Military Club, The Palace of the Savings Bank, Old Historical Centre of Bucharest, Lipscani District, Old Princely Court and Church, Manuc’s Inn, The Beer Cart Restaurant, National Bank of Romania, University Square, University of Bucharest, Coltea Hospital and Sutu Palace.

Eating Out in Bucharest

Romanian cuisine features a conglomeration of the different traditions which have combined with standard Romanian fare. Nonetheless, the character of Romanian cuisine remains unique and distinct. Soups are very much a staple part of the menu—from sour soups to fish soups to meat and vegetable soups. The presence of meat is also plentiful in a typical Romanian meal, along with an assortment of sausages, cheeses, fish, vegetables, salads and pies. Dessert includes baklava, cozonac, amandine and papanasi, while plum brandy, beer and Elderflower Champagne are usually drunk with meals.

When To Visit

May or September would be the most ideal months to visit Bucharest. It is not advisable to visit Bucharest in the winter months as the weather can sometimes reach unbearably low temperatures. Extreme heat can also occur in the summer months, which is why visiting in the early fall or late spring is recommended.

Bucharest Nightlife

The nightlife in Bucharest is diverse and there is something to cater to everyone’s taste. Whether you are looking for a club, a pub, a bar, a disco or a casino, Bucharest has got it all for you. For younger or more elderly tourists, you might prefer a night tour of Bucharest, also known as “The Little Paris of the East”. Some of the popular clubs in Bucharest include Fire Club, Allure Club, Oldies Club, Club A, Twice, Armadillo Club, Backstage, The Office and Escape.
