Buenos Aires City Breaks 2011
Buenos Aires, the tango capital of the world is increasingly becoming a major city break destination for travellers from the UK. In many ways the famous dance typifies the spirit of the bold , street-wise new Buenos Aires. It's hot, sassy and great to watch. In just a few years, the city has gone from being a South American back water to one of the hippest destinations. Buenos Aires is a huge and sprawling city and to be honest, is quite short of iconic tourist attractions, however, spend some time here and you will be sure to be drawn in by it's endless appeal. It really is quite an intriguing and beautiful city. Buenos Aires is a most South American of cities, however, it doesn't boast the wealth of Spanish colonial architecture you may expect. The British, however, have also left their mark, least not with the names of some of the football teams. Racing Club and Newell's Old Boys were formed by British ex pats, indeed, one of the founding fathers of Argentine football was a Glaswegian teacher named Alexander Hutton. Getting around Buenos Aires Traffic in the Argentine capital can be hellish, but on the upside, taxis are generally cheap and clean. If travelling by taxi, you would be advised to ask your hotel to call a radio taxi (remise) which should be safer than hailing a cab on the street. The quickest way of getting from A to B though is by the simple to use and efficient metro system. Areas of Buenos Aires Recoleta is Buenos Aires most refined and well-heeled neighborhood. Expensive shops abound here and you're bound to see ladies walking their poodles if you hang around long enough. Recoleta cemetery is also home to Eva Peron's mausoleum and is a major tourist attraction albeit a rather morbid one. The flea market at San Telmo is an interesting place to visit. The area itself is quite ramshackle and run down with many buildings crumbling and in a state of disrepair, however, tango dancers who dance among the stalls make for quite a unique sight. So why not visit this wonderful city and take in a tango show. There's certainly no better city for this and Palermo and San Telmo are the best locales to find your authentic Tango clubs.
