Copenhagen Holidays 2012
Copenhagen is the capital of Denmark and is an exciting city with everything to offer; shopping, nightlife, sightseeing, dining, and much more, all in one place. The city is divided into nine districts, each with its own charm and beauty. The CityIndre By is the downtown heart of Copenhagen, and a more traditional part of the city; here you'll find beautiful churches spiraling up into the sky, narrow streets, and plenty of shops that sell almost everything. If you want to cool off at the beach or have an outdoor excursion, head to Vestegnen south of the city. Nørrebro is a lively part of the city, where you can find all kinds of pubs, clubs, food and art. Prices here are low because it's a student and immigrant hangout. Neighboring Vesterbro is more adult oriented, with its sex shops and one off hotels; cafes, bars, and sex houses line Istedgade and offers something for the more adventurous traveler. What to DoIf you're an art buff, see the Danish National Gallery; here are works by Picasso, Rembrandt, Matisse and other Dutch masters. North of the city you can visit Ordrupgaard's collections of Monet, Gauguin, Degas and Renoir. Architectural sightseeing is easy to do when you visit the Rundetarn; you can climb the tower and get a full panoramic view of the entire city, but if you want an even higher fantastical view you should check out the Church of our Saviour in Christianshavn. If you’re traveling with children, see the Tivoli and Bakken amusement parks; Tivoli is more frequented by tourists and Bakken is surrounded by a beech forest, these two are the older operating amusement parks in the world and not to be missed. Shopping in Denmark is great, if you’re not looking too hard for a bargain. Here you will pay more but the quality of the products is top notch and worth it. Head to Stroget where shops line the mall, and back towards the narrower streets where prices are a little lower and the touristy fare isn’t as easy to find. Dining and drinking is good in Nyhvn, but can be a little pricey. If the weather is warm, check out the kebab stands lining the street and buy a beer from one of the stands and save some money. In Copenhagen you will be paying for ambiance, and sometime the touristy pubs just aren’t worth the cost.
