Tallinn Holidays 2012

Tallinn Orthodox Cathedral

Tallinn is Estonian's picturesque capital, and it borders the coast of the Gulf of Finland, near Helsinki. If you're looking for sightseeing, beaches, festivals, sport and relaxation, Tallinn has much to enjoy.

One thing to keep in mind is that Tallinn is best explored by foot; you can rent cars and taxis but it's best seen by wandering about and avoiding the massive traffic jams that occur daily.

Sightseeing

Many walking tours of Tallinn's old town are available, and the city is designed around pedestrian traffic. There is the Chillout Walking tour, where you can take in stories about the legends of Tallinn, and find out from local guides what life in the city is like. The Tallinn Free Tour is a guided tour directed by local students who will show you all the ins and outs of the city and take you off the beaten path. If you want to find good places to party at night or photo opportunities you might have missed, this might be a good tour for you. The last of the sightseeing tours is the Tallinn Pubcrawl, where seasoned Estonian partiers will take you through the best bars Tallinn has to offer. Each tour includes three drinks, one is a surprise Estonian drink that you shouldn't miss!

Have Fun!

When in Tallinn, check out the beaches! Do be mindful of the flags; if they're green the water quality is good, but if they're yellow or red just stay out. The best two beaches are Pirita Marina and Kakumae beach. Harku lake is recommended by many travel guides but it's become rather murky as of late, and the shore is lined with vipers.

In the city you can have a spa holiday, and right outside you can go Ice Skating (indoors and out) along with ATV offroading in the area around Harku Lake.

When eating out, check out Cafe EAT if you're on a budget and get the Raekoja plats. Mauruse Pubi is a great pub where you can eat and drink without spending too much. If you want to treat yourself, visit Aed for organic cuisine to die for. Korsaar (Estonian for Pirate) has a nice pirate theme and great seafood.

If you want to have a drink, check out the Beer House, a Bavarian Beer pub. Lounge 24 is a more upscale bar at the top of the Blu Hotel where you can get a great view of Old Town at night on the terrace. The best nightclubs by far are Bonbon and Prive, but they're formal and expensive. Terrarium and Hollywood are more laid back and have good prices for drinks.
