Venice Holidays 2012
Beautiful VeniceVenice is considered by many to be one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Located in northern Italy, the beauty and charm of Venice is said to be unparalleled throughout the world. Venice is the capital of the Veneto region. The beauty of Venice is due in part to its unique architectural structure and artworks. Venice has been described numerous times as one of Europe’s most romantic cities, alongside Paris and Florence. Leading AttractionsVenice is home to several exceptional and breathtaking tourist attractions including the Basilica di Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari, the Scuola Grande di San Rocco and the Basilica di Santa Maria della Salute. The Canal Grande is also a must-see in Venice, as it is often referred to as ‘the most beautiful street in the city’. Another top sites to visit in Venice include the Campo dei Santi Giovanni e Paolo and the Chiesa di San Sebastiano. St. Mark’s Basilica and Doges Palace are also two of Venice’s main attractions. Food and DrinkNo visit to Venice (or Italy in general) is complete without making the most out of the culinary experience. While Venetian cuisine has commonalities with other North Italian cuisines, there is still a significant and notable distinction. There are three geographical divisions in Venetian cuisine: one in the plains, one in the mountains, and one in the coastal areas. Polenta is a very common dish served in Venice. Seafood dishes are a main feature of Venetian cuisine. Seasonings that are typically used in Venetian fare are sunflower oil, salsa verde, mostarda, butter, senape, olive oil, kren and vinegar. Some wines that are often drunk in Venice include Prosecco, Bianco di Custoza and Pinot Grigio. When To GoThe most ideal time to visit Venice would be in the spring and summer months (March-early September). The weather is gorgeous at this time of year as opposed to late fall and winter when fog sometimes disrupts public transportation services. Summer will also provide you with longer daylight hours giving you more time enjoy to the sights and sounds of the city. NightlifeWhen it comes to nightlife, Venice may not top the list but there are certainly a good number of cafes and bars in town where you can wind down and enjoy the company of others with a glass of wine or two. Some noteworthy spots for Venetian nightlife include Teatro a’l Avogaria, Gran Teatro La Fenice, Pizzeria 900 Jazz Club, Picolo Mondo, Molocinque, Club 22—Acropolis, Scuola Grande San Rocco, Zen Cafe and Bacaro Jazz.
