Bermuda Holidays 2012

Bermudan Sunset

Although Bermuda seems like one landmass floating in the mild Gulf Stream, it is actually comprised of over 180 small islands, islets and rocks. Most are uninhabited and only the largest eight are linked by bridges and causeways. Bermuda is one of the smallest territories in the world. Visitors enjoy the fishhook-shaped archipelago made up of pink-colored sandy beaches and crystal clear blue waters with over 400 years of rich history.

Capital

Hamilton, the capital of Bermuda, attracts the most visitors on the island. Sightseeing attractions in the harbor town of Hamilton include historic lighthouses, museums, churches and the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute – a multi-million dollar institute built to showcase the natural wonders of the surrounding oceans through interactive exhibits. If that is not enough, visitors who are born to shop will not be disappointed in the plethora of shops found on Front Street.

Food

The food in Bermuda takes its cues from both American and European cuisines. Fresh seafood, such as spiny lobster, wahoo steak, Bermudian rockfish and shark hash are some of the local favorites. Restaurants vary from local seafood dives to fine dining establishments in seaside resorts.

Visitor Activities

Bermuda is speckled with private hidden coves, making it perfect for honeymooners. But not everything is isolated and private. World-class golf courses, fabulous beaches and clear waters allow for diverse holiday activities. Southampton Parish is a perfect setting for kayaking and yachting, while the town of St. George is touted as the oldest surviving town in Britain’s New World. To top things off, the island is surrounded by an extraordinary coral reef which has trapped many shipwrecks, making diving and snorkeling an exciting adventure.

Climate

The climate in Bermuda is very mild and comfortable year round. The warming effects of the Gulf Stream make Bermuda an ideal holiday location any time of the year, although the months between April and October are the warmest – with an average high temperature of 85 degrees Fahrenheit. It is also during these ‘summer months’ that a chance for a hurricane increases. The rest of the year, Bermuda experiences average high temperatures in the 70’s.

Wildlife

Singing tree frogs, 350 types of birds and 650 species of fish can be found in Bermuda. In addition, five of the world’s seven types of sea turtle species are found in the island’s waters.

Not only is Bermuda a fantastic holiday spot for beach goers, it is also rich in history and natural science. Visitors enjoy an ideal climate year round, perfect for golfing and watersport adventures.
