Canadian Holidays 2012

Mountain Range in Canada

Canada is perhaps best known, at least to honeymooners from the USA for Niagra Falls, and while that truly is a great and spectacular holiday destination for 2012, there's a whole lot more going on in this sensational country. Clive Anderson once joked (actually at the Montreal Comedy Festival 'Just for Laughs') that Canada was very similar to Scotland in that it is a cold northern country with a massive inferiority complex about it's larger neighbour to the south, and while there may be more than a grain of truth in this, Canadians in general welcome visitors to their country (even from the USA) with open arms.

Canada is a vast country, with huge swathes of it's area covered by vast wilderness where you could drive for days without seeing another soul. It is also a visually spectacular holiday destination with some of the world's most breath taking scenery. From the wide open spaces of the Rocky Mountains to the vibrant and exciting cities, Canada is ideally suited to multi-centre holidays and for those who can afford it, a luxury holiday to Canada really is something special.

City Destinations

Popular city destinations in Canada for those flying from the UK include Montreal, Ontario, Toronto and Quebec City. These cities are all located on Canada's east coast and have a shorter flying time of around eight hours from western Europe. Other options further inland include Vancouver and Calgary (both former Winter Olympic hosts).

All of Canada's main cities are clean, friendly and safe. They also invariably offer plenty to do for the visitor including exciting nightlife, interesting museums and plenty of shopping opportunities.

The Great Outdoors

If it’s outdoor adventure you are after then Canada is unparalleled as a fantastic outdoor adventure playground. Just some of the wonderful outdoor highlights include the Rocky Mountains, Jasper National Park, Niagra Falls and the Columbia Icelfields. Canada boasts many other interesting and beautiful outdoor features including glaciers, rivers, mountain ranges and picturesque fjords.

Wildlife

If it’s wildlife you’re after then a visit to Banff National Park should be top of your list. This location showcases all of Canada’s most interesting species including bison, bears, wolves, cougars and lynx to name a few.

Honeymoons and Weddings

Canada, and more specifically, Niagra Falls has long been a favourite honeymoon destination for newly weds from the USA, however, it is becoming increasingly popular with honeymooners from the UK. Niagra Falls is especially romantic, but there is also the draw of the big exciting cities and of course, if the newly marrieds are the outdoor types, then there are unlimited wonders to explore in the Canadian countryside.

Canadian Culture

In the past, Canada was strongly influenced by the two big colonial powers, Britain and France, however, it’s major influence nowadays is it’s neighbour, the United States. Canadians love their sport and Ice Hockey, or just plain ‘hockey’ as it is referred to in these parts is the national sport. Nothing goes down better in Canada than when the Canadian national ice hockey team defeats the Americans. Wayne Gretsky is Canada’s most famous son when it comes to ice hockey. In the film world, Canada has had many fine actors who have made it big in the movies including such household names as Michale J Fox and Jim Cary. The only problem is that most people think they are American!

Canada is a truly wonderful country to visit and it is sure to be an experience that will stay with you for years if you decide to holiday in this wonderful country.
