Holiday Destinations in the Caribbean

Schooner in Caribbean

The Caribbean is a beautiful and varied holiday spot. Some of the highlights are listed below. I am often asked what my favourite destination in the Caribbean is, and to be honest, I would have to say Havana. It is a great city and has a wonderful atmosphere and great places to visit. Aruba

Aruba is 15 miles north of Venezuela. The island is autonomous, but still part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Main attactions here are the Natural Pool or Conchi on the northern side of the island, which is a small pocket of water hidden by natural rock jutting into the ocean.

The California Lighthouse is on the northernmost tip of Aruba, with panoramic views and dirt trails for offroading and other fun motorsports. Other activities include horseback riding, hiking, rock climbing, sailing, fishing and wind surfing. Eagle and Baby Beach have the best water on the island, and Eagle beach has been called one of the ten best beaches in the world.

The Bahamas is an island chain that is a paradise of sun, blue waters, and white sands. In New Providence sound of Nassau you can visit the Bacardi Rum Factory, taking a two hours bus tour and receiving free drinks. Several cruise lines operate their own resorts in the Bahamas, which means you need to be a passenger to visit certain islands. Dolphin Encounters is a resort on Blue Lagoon Island, that is 5km from Nassau.

Barbados

Known as the "Little Britain" of the Carribean, Barbados has much to offer visitors. The capital has great rum and a fun nightlife. Central Barbados has Harrison Cave, a gigantic limestone caverns, Barbados Wildlife Reserve and Flower Forest, golf on the beach and polo.

In the east Bathsheba has the island's best surfing at The Soup Bowl with it's tidal pools which are great for soaking the stress away. The Southern Coast Oistins offers every Friday a fish fry right on the beach.

Cayman Islands

With it's crystal clear waters and breath taking coral reefs, great beaches and calm shores, the Caymans are an outstanding holiday destination. The Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Park is a beautiful reserve teeming with blue iguanas and a sand garden. Hell, West Bay is a popular attraction, an island formed of volcanic rock where you can buy souveniers and send friends and family a postcard.

Boatswain's Beach has over 14,000 turtles ranging in size from grams to hundreds of kilos, visitors are allowed to pick up small turtles from their wading pools. Cemetery Beach is great for snorkeling and wading.

Jamaica

Jamaica is the third largest country in the Americas, and a popular destination for holiday. Relax at Long Bay Beach, eat Jerk Chicken and pork on the side of the road at Boston Bay, enjoy foods that are organic and local at Mockingbird hill. Take in the many varieties of local run, and fresh bananas. Jamaica truly is a place to taste and drink in!
