Croatia Holidays 2012

Bay in Croatia

Now a major tourist hot spot, Croatia is one of the world’s leading beach holiday destinations. Situated on the Adriatic, Croatia has numerous clean, white sandy beaches, beautiful harbour towns and magnificent mountain ranges. Croatia also boasts no less than six UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Croatia’s climate is very much Mediterranean and when you’re sitting on a beach here you could be in Spain or the south of France. It’s hard to believe that this was a war ravaged country less than twenty years ago. As well as sandy beaches, the cities are a major attraction. Zagreb and Split are interesting and lively cities to visit and the walled city of Dubrovnik is a true gem on the Adriatic.

There are also attractions here for those seeking outdoor pursuits. You can go trekking through the sensational mountain ranges or mountain biking if that is your preference. Inland there are also many interesting medieval towns to explore which invariably are quaint, interesting and may contain markets which you can peruse at your leisure.

UNESCO Heritage Sites

The entire town of Dubrovnik is a UNESCO world heritage site and it’s a wonder that it is still in such excellent condition considering it survived a seventeenth century earthquake as well as being bombarded in the early nineties during the Yugoslav war. Other UNESCO sites include the beautiful and tranquil Plitvice Lakes National Park which is a beautiful and serene place to spend a day and also contains some fascinating birds and wildlife. The town of Trogir and Diocletian’s Palace in Split are two other sites which come highly recommended.

Travelling With Children

Croatia is reasonably child friendly and although facilities are not always on hand, kids are sure to enjoy the great outdoors when in Croatia. The beaches, parks and towns are generally clean and safe and perfect for families.

Weather in Croatia

Croatia has a warm and pleasant Mediterranean climate. Summers are hot, but generally the heat doesn’t get too intense. Winters can be very cold and swimming in the sea in the cold winter months is of course completely out of the question!

In summary, there is something for everyone in Croatia. Families enjoy the long summer days and balmy evenings, trekkers and cyclists can enjoy the mountains and fantastic scenery and beach bums are more than catered for on the many white sandy beaches. So what are you waiting for? Book your ticket to Croatia today!
