This small country is located in the northwestern part of South America and is bordered by both Columbia and Peru. It has the beautiful Pacific Ocean coastline, as well as an active volcano. This country of 13 million people is mostly of Spanish and Indian descent. Spanish is the official language, however, English is also commonly spoken. It is important to realize that each geographic area has its own particular culture. The inhabitants of the rain forest have different customs and traditions than those that live in the coastal regions. However, the one thing that all Ecuadorians have in common is that they are very polite and courteous. You will find that the local cuisine is based on Spanish style cuisine and influenced by traditional Indian cooking. You will be able to find many local restaurants that will be able to offer you different types of traditional fare. Along the coastal regions, you of course can experience some wonderful fresh seafood. The climate is going to vary from region to region. You can experience the warmth of the coastal regions and the cool breezy areas of the Andes Mountains. Depending on which area you visit, you will need to adjust some of your wardrobe. The diversity of this country makes for an excellent holiday destination. Not only is the population, diverse, but the geography is diverse as well. One day you may be rafting in the Amazon rain forest and the next day you may be relaxing on the luxurious beaches.
