Maldives Holidays 2011

Maldives Water Scene

It's little wonder The Maldives is such a popular luxury holiday destination and this is sure to be the case in 2010. The very nature of the country lends itself perfectly to tailor made, all inclusive and multi-centre holidays. The country is made up of over 1,200 islands so it is a beach lovers dream destination. The Maldives offer the holiday maker miles and miles of white sandy beaches, clear blue waters, stunning sunsets and breath-taking scenery. It's also a great place for the sports fanatic as scuba diving, surfing, snorkeling and hiking are all catered for.

The Maldives climate is tropical which means warm temperatures throughout the year and lots of hot sunny days. Predicting weather ahead of your journey is precarious as each island maintains it's own unique micro climate. It's advisable to check a local weather site if you require this information. Also be aware of monsoon season before travelling. April is, on the whole, the warmest month and December is the coolest.

Maldives food is fresh and delicious and seafood, is of course, a speciality. Scallops, octopus, tuna squid and lobster are favourite dishes. Combined with exotic Asian spices and flavours including coconut and curry, it can make for a truly unique taste experience. The sea food restaurants here are among the best in the world, and with such fresh produce right on the door-step, it makes for a once in a lifetime culinary experience.

The Maldives is one of the smallest countries in Asia and has a population of just over quarter of a million. The capital is Male' which has approximately a quarter of the nations total population. Other major settlements are Hithadhoo, Fuamulah and Kuldhudhufushi. Roughly two hundred of the islands are inhabited.

The government maintains a policy of only one resort per island and there are very exacting standards which all newly built hotels must adhere to. This makes for extremely secluded and luxurious resorts. Perfect for honeymooners or those wishing for a romantic get-away. It goes without saying that these hotels and resorts can be rather costly, however, as in the case of a honeymoon, perhaps a one-off luxury treat shouldn't be out of the question.

It really can't be stressed enough just how special The Maldives is as a holiday destination. The weather, the seclusion, the luxury, the food and the people all combine to make for perhaps the number one luxury holiday destination in the world. It has to be experienced to be believed.
