Mauritius Holidays 2012

Mauritius Island with Boat

While visiting the island paradise of Mauritius one way to spice up your vacation is to go out on a deep sea fishing trip. Mauritius holds many of the world fishing records, including the one of a Mako shark that came in at 1,115 pounds.

Blue Marlin hunt the waters surrounding the island from November to April, so chances of catching this trophy fish during that time are high. If the deep seas are not to your liking there are plenty of famous spas on the island that will make you feel like royalty, such as One & Only Le Saint Geran and Beau Rivage.

Places of Interest

Mauritius provides you with plenty of activities, including deep sea fishing, golfing, shopping, and luxury spas. While these are great activities to participate in while on vacation they do not cover the beautiful sights that Mauritius has to offer each of its visitors. Grand Bay offers you plenty of places to shop, but it is also the place to go if you are looking for a night out on the town.

Triolet Shivala is the longest village on the island. In Triolet Shivala you will have the chance to visit Maheswarnath, which is the largest Hindu temple ever built. The temple was built back in 1819 in honor of the Gods Ganesha, Brahma, Krishna, Vishnu, Muruga, and Shiva. Mountain biking and hiking can be found in The Labourdonnais Orchads among the beautiful tropical fruit trees and the exotic flowers.

Local Cuisine

The local cuisine is influenced by the diverse cultures that make up the population of the island of Mauritius. The local dishes are an exciting blend of Creole, Chinese, African, European, and Indian.

A popular local dish is the Creole Curry that is made with beef, chicken, or fish. No matter what it is made with it is a rather spicy dish and is served with white rice. If seafood is more to your enjoyment don’t pass up an opportunity to try the prawns served with red sauce.

The Fried Rice or Beef Black beans are also great dishes to try if you are not a fan of spicy foods Most Mauritian food is hot and spicy, and you will notice there is a lot of chili being served on the islands of all different flavors.

Wildlife

With how isolated the island of Mauritius it is no surprise that the wildlife is sparse on land. Where the wildlife really comes to life is out in the Indian Ocean. Going out into the ocean to view the wildlife is always going to be full of surprises because you never know what you will see from one day to the next.

Scuba diving is one of the best ways to get up close and personal with all of the marine life that the island has to offer, but the Blue Safari submarine can show you things that diving alone can’t. The submarine can take you down far enough to see many of the shipwrecks that lay along the ocean floor, some of them going as far back as the 17th century.

Best time to go based on the climate

Like many other islands, the best time to visit is going to depend on the weather. Visiting Mauritius during the months of July through December is recommended because of the cooler temperatures and the lower humidity.

The rainfall during these months is also minimal so you will be able to enjoy all of the outdoor attractions the island has to offer. If you plan to go scuba diving you will want to visit the island between December and March because of the clear waters.

The summer months, which bring the hot and dry days, are between November to May and the temperatures on the coast can get as high as 91 degrees Fahrenheit. The ocean can reach temperatures as high as 82 degrees Fahrenheit during these warm months.

Winter comes to the islands from May to October, which during these cooler months temperatures are around 75 degrees Fahrenheit.
