Slovakia Holidays 2012
Central Europe's Hidden GemLocated in Central Europe, Slovakia is landlocked with Hungary to its south, Poland to the north, Austria and Czech Republic to the west, and Ukraine to the east. Bratislava is the capital city of Slovakia and it also serves as the country’s largest city, followed closely by Kosice. Slovakia’s official language is Slovak. While slightly off the beaten path, Slovakia actually boasts one of the fastest growth rates in the European Union. Tourist AttractionsWhen it comes to tourist attractions, there is no shortage in Slovakia of places to see, visit and revel in. Tourist spots run the gamut from thermal baths and relax centres to museums, galleries and castles. Some of the most popular places to visit include the Banska Bystrica Opera, Aqua City Poprad, Thermal Park Besenova, Slovak Philharmonic, SNP Museum, Wellness Patince, Slovak National Museum and Aqua Park Tatralandia. Thermal Park Besenova features a luxurious complex of spas while Aqua City Poprad allows you to ski, mountaineer or swim during the day, and chill out at one of the bars throughout the night. For tourists who wish to learn more about Slovakia and its fascinating history, visit one of the museums. Slovak CuisineSlovak cuisine features a variety of food that differs from one region to another. Heavily influenced by its neighbouring countries, Slovak fare is characterized by food that is sustainable in both hot summers and cold winters. These include dairy products, onions, potatoes, sauerkraut, wheat and pork. It is not uncommon for eggs, beef, vegetables, poultry, goat and lamb to be part of the menu as well. Today, contemporary Slovak cuisine is influenced by several world cuisines and utilizes many different spices and ingredients in its preparation. When to VisitHaving continental climate, Slovakia experiences all four seasons in a year. Ideally, the best time to visit the country would be in the spring or in the fall when the days are warm and sunny and the nights are cool and crisp. For visitors who wish to go skiing, obviously winter would be the best time to go. Ski season lasts through March. NightlifeWhen it comes to nightlife, Slovakia has some very interesting spots to offer. Bratislava in particular features several party zones that are worth checking out. Kartell, Duplex, Manana Cafe Club, Infinity, Destination, Cafe Studio Club, Rock OK, Malecon, Nu Spirit Bar, Nu Spirit Club, Loft, Radost, Channels, Empire, Subclub, Trafo, 80’s Club, Rio, Remix, The Club and Be About Club are some clubs/bars/pubs that come highly recommended by both tourists and locals alike.
