South America is a magical place, with the world's largest rainforest and river (the Amazon), the highest mountain range of the Andes, Easter and Galapagos Islands, pristine beaches, the world's tallest waterfall, and many other stunning offerings to explore!

The Andes

The Andes are an extensive mountain chain in South America. It extends from Chile to Venezuela through Colombia, Argentina, Bolivia, Peru and Ecuador. The highest peak rises to almost 7,000m above sea level, which makes it the highest peak outside of Asia. Ski resorts operate in the winter months, and mountain expeditions usually begin in Venezuela.
Amazonia covers 40% of South America.Brazil, parts of Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, Venezuala, Guyana Suriname and French Guiana are included in Amazonia. It's a beautiful biodiversity area where you can spot many rare animals and birds. Always stay near your tour guide, and bring a snake bite kit and insect repellent.

Easter Island

Easter Island is one of the most isolated places on Earth. Here you can see the Moai Statues, and many other archealogical treasures from the fallen Polynesian culture.
Galapagos Islands are famous for Darwin and Giant Seaturtles. You can see many other animals here, like penguins, sea lions and marine iguanas. Remember, this is a protected wildlife area so you must be escorted by a national park ranger at all times. The landscape is very barren and beautiful, an isolated chain with volcanos that covers 50,000 sqkm of ocean.

The Pantanal

The Pantanal is the world's largest diverse freshwater wetlands. Which wildlife you see depends on what time of year you visit. You are guaranteed to see the wildlife, because the Pantanal is teeming with it. The best time to see jaguars is between June and October. Photographic safari and boat tours are offered, so you'll have something to bring home. In addition to wildlife spotting, the Pantanal is a great place for horseback riding and hiking.
Tierra del Fuego is known as the island of fire.

It offers many things for naturalists, penguins, hiking, winter sports like skiing and snowboarding, and excellent sea food. Many cruises operate out of Tierra del Fuego as a start and terminus point. You can take a train from the capital to the national park.

Machu Picchu

Machu Picchu is an ancient Incan city in the Peruvian Andes. It's also known as the "Lost City of the Incas" and is the most famous and awe-inspiring ruins in south America, when visiting Peru it can't be missed!
