Sri Lanka Holidays 2011

Thailand 2010

Sri Lanka, formerly known as Ceylon, is a tear-drop shaped island located in the Indian Ocean off the southern coast of India. Sri Lanka is most famous for it's miles of white sandy beaches, it's dense, lush jungles and it's tea plantations. Visitors can also explore ancient cities, sample the delicious local food and enjoy the islander's legendary hospitality. It really is a gem of an island and a must for all tropical beach lovers. Multi Centre and all inclusive holidays are an excellent option when travelling to Sri Lanka in 2010.

The Beaches

The biggest beach at Beruwela is over thirty kilometres long and has a nicely sheltered bay which is ideal for swimmers and water sports. Wherever you are on the island, you are assured picture postcard style vistas. The sand throughout the island is generally soft and golden and most beaches are backed by swaying palm trees. The island is surrounded by the warm waters of the Indian Ocean which makes swimming all the more pleasant.

Snorkelling, scuba-diving and surfing are all popular on the island and are well catered for. Snorkelling is particularly rewarding in the crystal clear waters surrounding the island and the south west coast is particularly suited to surfing.

The Food and Drink

Food in Sri Lanka is colourful, exotic and spicy. Ingredients which you will sample which are grown on the island are nutmeg, turmeric and cinnamon spices as well as freshly grown tomatoes, peppers and chillies. Coconut milk is a favourite and is used to flavour many of the island's famous curries. Seafood is in abundance on the coast with favourites being jumbo prawns, para fish, lobster and tuna. Ceylon tea is particularly refreshing and invigorating on a hot day.

The Climate

Sri Lanka has a tropical climate with the higher areas cooler than the coast, however, coastal areas have a cool sea breeze. Monsoon season is from May to July and from December to January, so these time periods are best avoided unless you fancy a drenching. It is advised to take rainwear on the off chance there will be a shower whatever time of year you decide to go.

The Night Life

Bars and restaurants are in abundance at the resorts on the coast and a favourite past-time when dining is watching the sunsets, which are particularly spectacular in this part of the world. Hotels provide evening entertainment and evening strolls are recommended for romantically inclined couples or honeymooners.

In Summary

A true gem in the Indian Ocean, Sri Lanka offers so much to the visitor. Golden beaches, fantastic weather, tasty and exotic food and fascinating culture are all here to be enjoyed. Truly a wonderful and exciting holiday destination.
