Family Holidays in Bournemouth 2012My family and I travelled to Bournemouth last summer for what proved to be a very memorable and enjoyable break. My wife had been several times to the area with her family in her childhood and had fond memories of the town and the beach. We actually stayed in Boscombe which is just about a mile along the coastal road from Bournemouth pier. Boscombe has it's own pier also and is like a mini resort itself. Both Boscombe and Bournemouth have fantastic sandy beaches and Boscombe is a particular draw for surfers with lots of shops on the seafront catering for the surfer crowd. Bournemouth is a great place for children. The beach is bound to keep them amused for hours on end and there is a really pleasant holiday atmosphere throughout the town. The weather in summer is, on the whole extremely pleasant and there is a high probability of long sunny days throughout the summer. Indeed the whole town seems to be set up for enjoying the suns rays and many flats and apartments have terraces and balconies facing towards the sun. Bournemouth Lower Gardens are a particularly pleasant place to spend a lazy afternoon. There is crazy golf and a large hot air balloon from where you can view Bournemouth and the sea. At night during the summer, you may be lucky enough to catch the 'Candle Illuminations' festival which is a sort of festival of lights where people can have the chance to light lanterns in the park and enjoy the sights and sounds. As with most seaside towns, there are plenty of amusements and ice cream vans to keep the children occupied. Crazy golf, pleasant walking paths and cycling routes are also available. So if you are wondering about next year's family holiday, then Bournemouth should be an option. It really is an extremley pleasant and quaint town which still maintains glimpses of it's grand Victorian past. You can also rely on the weather being pretty good in high summer, although remember this is still Britain and the unpredictable can happen. But Bournemouth's climate really feels like the North of France rather than Britain. I can't recommend it higly enough.recommend it highly enough.
