Stratford Upon Avon Holidays 2012

Stratford Upon Avon Cottage

Stratford-upon-avon is the birthplace of William Shakespeare, located in Warwickshire. If you're a theater buff, or just want to get away for a few days to the country, it's an excellent holiday destination. Other than this, it's one of the most popular holiday destinations in all of the United Kingdom, so you should see it atleast once!

What to See

When in Stratford-upon-Avon, you must see Shakespeares's birthplace at Henly Street! History is a little sketchy on whether it's his birthplace, but he did spend his formative years here; the cottage has been restored to it's original condition with 16th century furnishings and decor, be sure to check out the gardens!

Another site to see in this historic town is the Holy Trinity Church, where you can visit the tomb of the famous playwright; if you want to visit the tomb the church will ask you to make a small donation to it's operation, well worth it.

No visit to Stratford-upon-Avon would be complete without seeing the Wyrd Museum; here you can walk through an odd slice of history of the former Museum of Wizardology. Stratford's premier spooky attraction, you can visit the Bombay Manor after dark and see if you can keep your wits about you.

If Tudor Era history is your cup of tea, check out the Falstaff Experience; it proclaims to be the oldest haunted property in the world, and houses the Tudro World museum. If ghost hunting and the paranormal is your thing, don't miss it!

What to Do

See a performance at the Royal Shakespeare theatre, where fine actors keep the classics alive. Remember that you need to buy your tickets atleast a couple months before you plan to make your trip, as they can be hard to get! If you want to relax, you can check out the Wildmoor Spa and Health Club, where you can get a spa day and be pampered before you go to the theatre.

The Dirty Duck and Black Swan is a great pub, with seating ala cart and outside. The Ripple Cafe has a great Chinese buffet on offer with good prices, and a nice bar on the first floor. The One Elm Pub is a good place to eat, drink, and be merry; it's also within walking distance of a lot of the tourist attractions mentioned above. Bureau is Stratford's best nightclub with good drink prices and dance music to get you moving!
